What Is MARPE?

MARPE stands for miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expander. It uses a few small temporary miniscrews to anchor the expander directly to the bone of the upper jaw. That bone anchorage allows the jaw to widen even in older teens and adults, whose palate has largely stopped growing and would not respond to a traditional expander alone.

Why It Is a Big Deal

For years, an adult who needed real upper-jaw widening often faced a surgical expansion procedure. For many suitable candidates, MARPE offers a non-surgical alternative, true skeletal expansion without an operating room. What MARPE Can Help With

By widening a narrow upper jaw, MARPE can correct an adult crossbite, create room to relieve crowding, and broaden the upper arch.
