Clear Aligners on Maui: Invisalign and Spark

Maui Braces provides clear aligners (Invisalign or Spark) at our Kahului, Makawao, and Lahaina offices, led by Dr. Alex Verga, a top 1% clear aligner provider. Clear aligners straighten teeth with a series of custom, nearly invisible trays instead of brackets, and they treat most cases of crowding, spacing, and common bite issues for teens and adults. It starts with a free consultation and a 3D digital scan, no messy impressions. Call or text (808) 874-9229 to book.

What Are Clear Aligners, and How Do They Work?

Clear aligners are a series of custom, see-through trays that fit over your teeth and move them a little at a time. Every couple of weeks you step up to the next tray, and your teeth shift gradually toward their final position. They do the same job as braces, just without brackets and wires, and you take them out to eat and clean your teeth.

The Aligners We Use: Invisalign and Spark

Dr. Alex Verga is a top 1% clear aligner provider, meaning very few orthodontists have placed more aligners than he has. That experience lets us match the right system to your case. We offer Invisalign, the most recognized name in clear aligners, and Spark aligners, which are engineered to be among the clearest and most stain-resistant available. Whichever system fits your treatment best, the same expert planning stands behind it.

Are Clear Aligners Right for You?

Most teens and adults are candidates for clear aligners. They work beautifully for crowding, spacing, and many common bite issues, and they are especially popular with adults and motivated teens who want a discreet option. They are not the best tool for every case; complex bites and some movements are still handled more predictably with braces.

We do not use clear aligners for early (Phase I) treatment in young children. While a child's baby teeth are still coming and going, the fit of the aligner keeps changing, which lowers its efficiency and lengthens treatment. For young children who need early treatment, braces or other appliances are the better tool. The honest way to find out what fits is a free consultation.

Should My Teen Get Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners can be great for teens, but they are a real responsibility. They only work if your teen wears them 22+ hours a day and keeps track of them. A simple gut check: look at how they manage the rest of their life, even their bedroom. If they are organized and remember their commitments, they will likely do well with aligners. If staying organized is a struggle, braces take that responsibility off their plate, since braces are always working with no daily effort. We are glad to give you an honest opinion at the consultation.

The Clear-Aligner Process at Maui Braces

  1. 1

    Free consultation and 3D scan

Dr. Alex confirms whether aligners are right for you and captures a digital iTero scan, no goopy impressions. This is also where we confirm your plan and cost.

    Same-day scan at your consult
  2. 2

    Custom plan and fabrication

Your scan drives a digital plan mapping how each tooth will move. Your aligners, Invisalign or Spark, are then custom-ordered from the lab. We typically schedule about 8 weeks for them to arrive, and they often come in sooner, so we get you started earlier.

Custom-made: about 8 weeks, often sooner
  3. 3

    Attachments and your first aligners

Small tooth-colored attachments are bonded to a few teeth to give the aligners grip for precise movements. They are subtle and removed at the end. Then you begin wearing your first set.

  4. 4

Wearing your aligners: the 22+ hour rule

You wear each set 22+ hours a day, taking them out only to eat and brush, then move to the next set on schedule. This matters most: aligners only work when worn, so results depend on your consistency.

Consistent wear is the #1 success factor
  5. 5

Quick checks every 10 to 12 weeks

You come in only about every 10 to 12 weeks, far fewer visits than braces. That convenience suits busy families and anyone commuting across the island.

  6. 6

Typically 2 to 3 sets of aligners

Most treatments run across two to three sets, including refinements, over roughly 18 to 24 months. The exact number depends on your case.

  7. 7

    Retainers to protect your result

When your teeth reach their final position, you move into retainers. You wear them full-time for about 8 weeks, then just at night for life to keep your smile in place. Your treatment includes three sets, not just one, so you always have a backup if one is lost.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost on Maui?

Clear aligners at Maui Braces (Invisalign or Spark) range from $7,000 to $9,000, depending on case complexity and how many sets it takes. Your cost includes three sets of retainers. We offer 0% financing and work with your insurance benefits, and your exact investment is confirmed at your free consultation, with no surprises.

Clear Aligners for Teens and Adults

Adults. Clear aligners are the most popular choice for adults at our practice, straightening teeth without announcing it to the world. They fit around work, presentations, and an active island lifestyle.

Teens. For organized, motivated teens, aligners let them eat what they want and keep up with sports and instruments. Success comes down to consistent wear, so we help families decide honestly whether a teen is ready.

Patient Story

An adult professional came to our Makawao office wanting to fix mild crowding without anyone noticing. She was a strong candidate for clear aligners and committed to wearing them 22+ hours a day. Treatment took about 14 months, with quick checks every 10 to 12 weeks that fit around her work schedule. She finished with a straight smile and moved into her three sets of retainers.

Clear Aligners on Maui: FAQs

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Most clear-aligner treatments take about 18 to 24 months, though simpler cases finish sooner. Dr. Alex gives you a personalized estimate at your consultation.

How soon do I get my aligners after the scan?

Your aligners are custom-ordered from a lab. We typically schedule about 8 weeks for them to arrive, though in many cases they come in earlier and we get you started sooner.

How many hours a day do I have to wear them?

22+ hours a day, taking them out only to eat and to brush. Aligners only move your teeth while they are in, so consistent wear is the single most important thing you control.

Does Invisalign hurt?

Each new set brings a day or two of mild pressure as your teeth begin to move. That is normal, temporary, and a sign it is working.

What is the difference between Invisalign and Spark?

Both are clear-aligner systems that do the same job. Spark is engineered to be among the clearest and most stain-resistant. Dr. Alex chooses the system that fits your case best.

Will I need rubber bands with clear aligners?

Possibly. When your bite needs correcting, small elastic rubber bands are used, and they can be part of clear-aligner treatment just as they are with braces. If your bite needs them, Dr. Alex shows you exactly how to wear them.

What is IPR?

IPR (interproximal reduction) is a gentle, precise smoothing of a very small amount of enamel between certain teeth. It creates a little space and evens out small differences in tooth size or shape, so your aligners can deliver a precise, well-fitting result. It is common and comfortable.

What are attachments?

Attachments are small, tooth-colored bumps we bond to a few teeth during clear-aligner treatment. They are barely noticeable and give the aligners something to gently grip, so they can make precise movements that would otherwise be hard to achieve. They are not permanent and are removed when your treatment is complete.

Should my teen get clear aligners?

Only if they are organized and reliable, since aligners only work with 22+ hours of daily wear. A good gut check is how they manage the rest of their life. If staying on top of things is hard, braces are the lower-effort choice.

Can children use clear aligners?

We do not use aligners for early treatment in young children, because the fit changes as baby teeth come and go, which slows progress. Aligners work best once most permanent teeth are in.

What if I cannot keep up with wearing them?

If aligners are not being worn enough to make progress, we can switch to braces, which take the daily effort out of the equation. Because new braces require lab fabrication, there is a $1,000 fee to cover that cost. We would rather switch and get a great result than let treatment stall.

How many retainers do I get?

Three sets, included in your cost. You wear retainers full-time for about 8 weeks, then nightly for life. The most common reason people need treatment again is that they lose a retainer and stop wearing it, so the three sets mean you always have a backup.

Will my insurance cover clear aligners?

Many plans with an orthodontic benefit apply. We verify your benefits before you start so you know exactly what is covered.

Can I eat and drink with my aligners in?

Take them out to eat and to drink anything other than water. Brush, or at least rinse with water, before putting them back in.

Are there any food restrictions with clear aligners?

No. One of the biggest perks of clear aligners is that you take them out to eat, so all your usual foods are fine. There is no avoiding hard, sticky, or chewy foods the way there is with braces. Just remove your aligners before eating, and brush or rinse before putting them back in.
