ORTHODONTIST FOR KIDS ON MAUI

When needed, our orthodontists offer early orthodontic treatment options. Early treatment (aka Phase I) can help guide your child’s teeth and jaw development, making future treatment easier and more effective. While most kids will not need early treatment, it saves significant time and cost for those that do. In most cases we will monitor your child’s growth for FREE so we can start treatment at the ideal time and ensure we get the best result.

What Our Patients Are Saying

BRACES FOR KIDS

What to Expect

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children visit the orthodontist for their initial evaluation by age 7. Early screening allows us to detect and correct growth-related problems before they become serious. Our goal is to always provide the shortest path of treatment that leads to the best result.

BENEFITS OF EARLY ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

Provide more room for crowded erupting teeth

Preserve space from early tooth loss

Create facial symmetry by manipulating jaw growth

Reduce the possible need for tooth extraction

Reduce the overall treatment time

During your child’s appointment, our orthodontist will carefully examine his or her mouth and jaw to determine if treatment is needed, and when it should begin. We will carefully design a treatment plan that will help your child achieve the best possible outcome.

Step 1: Complete Orthodontic Records

We take a full set of orthodontic X-rays and high resolution photos to evaluate your child’s bite, alignment, jaw position, and facial symmetry. This is not your average dental exam. This is a comprehensive evaluation of growth and aesthetics.

Step 2: Growth Assessment with Dr. Alex

You’ll meet directly with Dr. Alex, Maui’s board certified orthodontist. He will assess your child’s dental and facial structure, review the images, and answer any questions you may have.

Step 3: In Depth Diagnosis and Treatment Goals

Dr. Alex will walk you through what’s happening beneath the surface from jaw growth to tooth development. Whether it’s simply monitoring or recommending early treatment, he’ll answer all your questions with honesty and care so you feel confident in every step forward.

Step 4: Treatment Options, Time, and Financing

Most kids won’t need any treatment right now and if that’s the case, we’ll simply monitor growth over time. But if early treatment is needed, we’ll walk you through options like Phase I braces and a palate expander. You’ll get a clear timeline and we’ll review flexible, interest free financing so everything feels manageable and stress free.

Step 5. Growth Monitoring or Begin Treatment

For most kids, we’ll schedule a free 6 month growth monitoring appointment. And if early treatment is recommended, we may begin by scanning for a palate expander or other appliance.

Why Age 7 Is the Best Time to Check In

Limited consults available each month. Schedule now to secure your spot.

At age 7, your child is still growing! At this stage, most kids have a mix of baby and adult teeth, giving us a clear view of how things are developing. It allows us to spot and often prevent bigger orthodontic issues before they become more complex.

While most kids won’t need early treatment, for those who do, catching problems now can save significant time, cost, and effort down the road. And if no treatment is needed, a growth check still offers peace of mind that everything is on track.

By evaluating your child’s growth at age 7:

  • We can catch developing issues early before they become complex or costly.

  • We monitor progress yearly with no pressure to start unless it’s truly needed.

  • We ensure any treatment begins at the ideal time for the best possible results.

What can we catch during a growth check?

  • Crowding or spacing

  • Overbite or underbite

  • Delayed tooth eruption

  • Jaw growth concerns

  • Mouth breathing or airway problems

Missing these critical growth windows can lead to longer treatment and less ideal results. Let’s help your child grow into a confident, healthy smile.
